A freelance proofreader and copy editor since 2002, Elizabeth has an experienced editorial eye; she knows how to improve a text without altering the author’s style. Before freelancing she was a project manager for a successful book packager, working extensively with freelancers, so she understands how important it is for a freelancer to be accurate and efficient. While most of her clients have been book publishers, Elizabeth has also copyedited for independent authors and publishers of online student guides. She has worked on dozens of craft, fine art, and how-to books, as well as children’s fiction and nonfiction titles.

Becca earned her degree in creative writing from the University of South Florida. She studied creative writing specifically because she felt that in order to be a successful editor, she needed to know the ins and outs of the craft. Since then, she has been a copy editor for auto enthusiast magazines and a variety of different pieces. Becca also currently works as a copy editor in the marketing department of a large grocery store chain. She has since officially started her own editing business, Copy by Becca.

As a former journalist, I work well under extreme deadline pressure and have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. I am a talented writer and precise editor. Hello! I am a freelancer specializing in proofreading, developmental editing, copy editing, and line editing. I am a former world language and English teacher with both a BA and MA in Classics and Humanities with an emphasis on ancient languages. I also have a certification in editing through Expert Rating.

I am an enthusiastic reader, writer, writing coach and editor of books and stories. I work as a developmental editor and copyeditor for independent clients as well as publishers, having edited more than 100 books. These works have spanned genres from romance and historical fiction to crime and thrillers. My specialty, though, is YA and adult fantasy, magical realism and science fiction. Any story with a bit of the strange, the magical, the fantastic – that’s my area. If given half a chance, I will offer book recommendations. I also enjoy working with neurodivergent writers and finding ways to work with your brain, not against it.

I have a diverse academic background, with degrees in nursing and international studies/relations, and a Master’s in creative writing.  I’ve worked in psychiatric nursing, women’s health, customer support, export, and medical editing.  In each of my jobs, I have written, proofread, and edited all types of business and company documents. As a writer and freelance editor, my focus has been primarily in psychology, self-help, memoir, and short fiction.
