Eliz Tchakarian has almost 20 years of freelance and formal publishing experience in a variety of different genres from short stories to screenplays, from academic literature essays to applied linguistics/Second Language Acquisition research papers. She has experience copy-editing and communicating with authors for the Modern Language Journal as well as Wayside Publishing, therefore maintaining editing skills in a wide variety of publications, print and online. Eliz has a Bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Languages and Literatures, and is thus closely acquainted with all genres of literature. She continued her education by obtaining an MA in Teaching Foreign Languages (with a focus on Spanish and English), which allowed her to become a highly proficient editor in the applied linguistics field – a rare skill. I have 40 years of experience as an editor in the fields of earth science, cartography, and geography. I hold a B.S. degree in geology with a minor in writing from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., and an M.S. degree in geographic and cartographic sciences from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. My career was spent working at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Reston, Va., until I retired in 2014. Since then, I have edited reports by scientists for whom English is not their first language to help get their work ready for peer review at English-language journals. I have also worked for USGS as a rehired annuitant doing peer review checks to ensure scientists have addressed all peer review corrections and comments. I am seeking editorial work including proofreading, copy editing, and substantive editing. One of my specialties is editing maps and scientific diagrams, charts, and graphs. I am also available to consult with authors on the best way to portray their earth science or geographic information. My background in providing government science to the public has given me expertise in ensuring that scientific concepts and research are understandable to the both the layperson and experts across the field of earth sciences. I am also available to perform general editing on a wide variety of documents including nonfiction manuscripts, journal or magazine articles, and presentation materials (posters, handouts).

Brandy Thomas is a freelance editor who lives and works in Marquette, Michigan. She edits across the publishing spectrum but specializes in science fiction and fantasy as well as children’s books. In addition to editing the written word, she is also an audiobook narrator and audio editor. You can hear her as the voice of the UP Reader audiobooks. I have experience editing short stories and novels in fantasy, soft sci-fi, speculative fiction, mystery, romance (fantasy, contemporary, and historical), and general non-fiction, for adult, young adult, and juvenile audiences. I do copy and line editing on various levels from the basic clean-up to the comprehensive rewrite. Evelyn Somers has worked as a literary editor for thirty-seven years and has served for thirty-three years as associate editor of the journal the Missouri Review. She holds a BA in French, an MA in creative writing, and a PhD in English literature. Works she has edited have been reprinted in virtually every major prize anthology. Highly respected for her one-on-one work with authors, both established and those publishing for the first time, Somers is also a prose writer whose work has appeared widely in literary journals. She is a former contributing editor for Bloom, where she has published essays and interviews with late-blooming writers. As a freelance prose editor, she provides reasonably priced critiques of short and book-length and discerning line editing on select manuscripts. Her editing credentials include over thirty edited books in many genres. Books she has edited have won the John Simmons award, the Drue Heinz, the Peter Taylor prize for the novel, and the National Indie Excellence Award. Her fiction has been long-listed and short-listed for several story and novel prizes. She is a recipient of a Barbara Deming Foundation grant for her writing about women’s issues.
