I am an editor and indexer specializing in academic texts. With a PhD in history (University of Michigan, 2016), I am intimately familiar with the conventions of academic writing, particularly in humanities fields, as well as the common frustrations of scholars adapting their work for various publication venues. Past projects include books published by New York University Press, University of Michigan Press, and Cambridge University Press, as well as articles for scholarly journals like Viator: Medieval and Renaissance Studies and Classical Philology.

I love to write, and I have done writing of all types. In fact, I have been composing pieces of one sort or another since the third grade. I spent many years as a technical writer, documenting software in the areas of e-Commerce, search software, personal financial management, and expert systems. Emily Martin obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in cultural anthropology with minors in religious studies and Asian studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She also has a Professional Certificate in Editing from University of California, Berkeley. She has spent the last six years editing academic works in the social sciences, memoirs, grant proposals for the arts, and recipes. She has conducted fieldwork on religious and domestic economies in Indonesia, worked as the head baker at several bakeries, and dyed yarn inspired by books. She is passionate about ensuring clarity and cohesion and making sure that the author’s voice and style shines throughout their work.
