I bring 15 years’ experience as a librarian to my translation, research, and editing services. My specialty is Louisiana history, which makes the fullest use of my proficiency in French and Spanish as well as my contacts in local libraries and archives. I’m available for translations from French to English or Spanish to English, general research and fact checking, back of book indexing, copyediting, proofreading, and writing.

Before starting Backspace Ink, my first editing project was for an early edition of What Color Is Your Parachute? (the first successful self-help book) by Richard Bolles. This project ignited my love of book production.

Birdie (she/her) has a B.A. in American Studies (American history, English and political science) and a minor in journalism (2010); she is earning a certificate in Editing from the University of Chicago (2024). She was an Ohio statehouse reporter, a freelance writer and editor, and a U.S. history teacher for middle school, college prep and AP classes. She is a member of ACES: The Society of Editing and Editorial Freelance Association (EFA), and specializes in line editing masters’ theses. She also does developmental editing, copy editing, and proofreading. She lives in the Midwest with her husband, children, three African dwarf frogs and one nerite racing snail.

Experienced writer and reader who is passionate about helping authors share their ideas. I specialize in editing and proofreading non-fiction, narrative non-fiction, memoir, self-help, religion and spirituality, and parenting.  I have a BA in Political Science and a Certificate in Copyediting from UC San Diego.

I run a freelance editing business that focuses on general-audience books, nonfiction and fiction. I help make writing clear, concise, accurate, and consistent, while always preserving the author’s voice.

I’ve written a dozen books (fiction and non-fiction) and more than 400 articles in various newspapers, magazines, and e-zines. My writing background is biography, history, and horror fiction. My work has appeared in such publications as Lighthouse Digest, Gulf & Main, The Connecticut Nutmegger, and Cape Style, to name a few and I’ve been featured on C-SPAN 2TV for my writing of the Civil War. I’m the founder and former editor for Patriots of the American Revolution magazine and been a freelance writer for over 35 years. I’ve also taught classes on writing and self publishing, and currently the CEO/Owner of JWC Publishing. JWC is a complete editorial company that offers clients editing, proofreading, ghostwriting, and a course on how to create income through writing.
