I hold a B.A. in English from the University of Colorado; an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from Vermont College of Norwich University; and an M.A. in Human Rights and Global Ethics from the University of Leicester. I also hold TEFL, CELTA and DLI certifications for ESL teaching. I have taught creative writing, research writing, composition and world literature at Norwich University and Johnson State College in Vermont and Suffolk University in Massachusetts. I also taught as an ESL instructor in the Middle East for ten years.

I have been proofreading since 2012. For the first nine years, I proofread letters, memos, manuals, and outlines for teaching courses for a religious order while serving there as a full-time volunteer. In February 2022 I completed Proofreading Academy’s (now known as Knowadays) “Becoming a Proofreader” course, passing the final exam with distinction, and entered the freelance world. I now do freelance proofreading for Proofed, focusing on business blogs. I also freelance for SPARK Publications, proofreading nonfiction books of 30,000+ words.

As a freelance editor/proofer/copywriter, I especially enjoy helping people ensure their websites, blogs, articles and social media posts are free of typos and properly worded (without overwriting their own voice).

MIT-trained (PhD in Linguistics, Prof. Noam Chomsky, advisor), I edit dissertations, theses, and articles for graduate students and researchers. I have over 40 years of scholarly editing experience (in academia, in publishing, and as a freelancer) and am a Member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA). Extensively published and a former associate professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, I have edited the manuscripts of over 2,000 students and scholars worldwide in a broad range of disciplines.
