Hello! I’m Allison (she/her). I’m an editor, writer, gamer, and geek. I specialize in developmental and line editing for science fiction and fantasy.

I’ve been an editor and proofreader since the 1980s, working on academic, scholarly, general nonfiction, and fiction articles and books. My approach to copyediting is “Your words, your way, with some smithing from me.” Accuracy and preserving the author’s voice are the hallmarks of my editing.

By completing an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction, writing a novel, leading workshops, and slush reading for a genre focused publisher, I have built a strong toolbox of editing skills to help writers shine. I have seven years of experience as a freelance developmental editor of genre fiction (Romance, Erotica, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery, and Young Adult), working with authors at the outline & world building, drafting, and revision stages.

I am an experienced copy-editor and proofreader, specializing in STEM and social sciences research articles.  I frequently assist non-native speakers of English (ESL) to polish their dissertations, research articles, and book manuscripts for submission to Anglophone publishing houses. These edits often include both copy- and line editing, but may also extend to developmental editing and manuscript evaluation. Due to the range of subjects that I work with, I am comfortable working with AP, APA, MLA, and Chicago style guides.

Carolyn Elerding is a former tenure-track professor trained in cultural studies, music, and gender and ethnic studies. She has worked as the managing editor of a small university press. As a freelancer, she offers a spectrum of services. Elerding is based in northern Colorado.
