John Edward Nelson

I am a professional writer: the author of eight published novels and five nonfiction titles, one of which, “The Magic Mirror,” won the COVR award at INATS for the best book of the year 2008. More recently I had an energy medicine book published, “A Guide to Energetic Healing,” a book of essays, “The Singularity of Consciousness,” and a book of poetry, “This Moment Paradise.” So, I come to editorial work from a writing background. I’m not an English teacher turned editor, but a creative writer who brings a different kind of perspective to editorial work.
I came out of a small-publishing background: the ad/pub director of Hampton Roads Publishing in the mid-1990s, editorial director of Bear & Company in the late 90s, executive director of Blessingway Books in 2000, and the co-editorial director of Inner Ocean Publishing in the early 2000s. In small publishing, we would often acquire inspired works by novice writers that needed hands-on editing and rewriting.
My visionary fiction titles are “Starborn,” “Transformations,” “Matrix of the Gods,” I, Human,” “The Miracle of Anna,” “New Mexican Standoff,” “The Serpent of Time,” and “Threshold.” I wrote a screenplay adaptation of Transformations with famed Hollywood executive/screenwriter David Field (Amazing Grace and Chuck) and an adaptation of Matrix of the Gods about a 21st-century Buddha with actor Steven Seagal, and later for actor Cary Tagawa.
At Hampton Roads, I was part of the team that acquired and first published “Conversations with God.” As the editorial director of Bear & Company and Inner Oceans, I’ve edited and/or acquired such titles as “Maya Cosmogenesis 2012,” “Expanded Medicine Cards,” “The Giza Power Plant,” Jean Houston’s “Mystical Dogs,” and Barbara Marciniak’s “Family of Light” and “The Path of Empowerment.”
As president of Bookworks Ltd, I’ve edited such titles as “The Sacred Promise” by Gary Schwartz, “The White House Doctor” by Connie Mariano, “Bright Light” by Dee Wallace, “Marilyn Monroe Returns,” “The 12-Step Buddhist,” and “Luminous Living” by Jacob Liberman. I have also edited medical thrillers, visionary fiction, Sci-Fi, historical novels, women’s fiction, and YA fiction. More than sixty of my edited books have been published in small- and big-publishing arenas.
