I have been an editor in various capacities, from production editor to management to freelancer, for more than 40 years in the sciences and medicine. My Bachelor’s degree is in Mass Communications, with a concentration in Cinema Studies. I have worked in book and journal publishing and written for several blogs, vlogs, and websites. The houses I have worked for include CRC Press/Taylor & Francis, Paul H. Brookes Publishing/Health Professions Press, and Wolters Kluwer Health (formerly Lippincott Williams & Wilkins). I began freelancing for publishers, compositors, and individual clients in 1984, and am at present strictly freelance. I have experience in developmental editing, line editing, proofreading, and indexing. I have expertise in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat/Professional and am competent in Excel and PowerPoint. I have expertise in the American Medical Association style manual, the Chicago Manual of Style, and the American Psychological Association style manual, and have easily adapted to and become expert in numerous proprietary style guides for various professional associations. The subject areas in which I have the most professional experience (in no particular order) are gastroenterology, gerontology/geriatrics, cell biology, psychiatry/psychology, health services administration, cardiology/hematology, virology, obstetrics/gynecology, and disaster medicine/public health preparedness.
