I have been a freelance proofreader for seven years, and have experience with a wide variety of genres, as well as document types. Charlotte Bismuth is an author and former prosecutor. From 2008 until 2015, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office, first as an appellate attorney, then as a member of the Prescription Drug Unit within the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor.  She is the author of Bad Medicine: Catching New York’s Deadliest Pill Pusher (Atria/One Signal Publishers, 2021), which details her team’s fight to hold a corrupt physician accountable for the overdose deaths of his patients. In 2021, Ms. Bismuth co-authored an article with the Prosecutors’ Center for Excellence entitled “Seeking Justice and Solutions:  A Prosecutor’s Guide to Opioid Overdose Investigations.” She is a member of the Opioid Industry Archive National Advisory Committee. Ms. Bismuth continues to work with the families of overdose victims to educate the public about the Purdue Pharma bankruptcy. She just finished writing a novel and is thrilled to put her writing, interviewing, research and language skills to use as a freelance editor, book collaborator,  ghostwriter and French-English translator. Charlotte Bismuth is a graduate of Columbia College, the Institute d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (“Sciences-Po”) and Columbia Law School. 

I am a BELS-certified freelance editor with more than 30 years of experience specializing in healthcare, environmental science, resource economics, and developmental disorders. I am highly skilled at editing translated and second-language manuscripts. I am proficient in electronic editing, using a variety of applications on both PC and Mac. As former editing manager of a full-service house, I have in-depth knowledge of prepress production. I work independently and have earned a reputation in the industry for efficient, thorough editing.

As a freelance editor, I work with a large and diverse group of authors covering most genres of fiction and nonfiction, publishing both traditionally and independently. I’ve worked in illustrated co-edition book publishing in New York, Delhi, and London for over 30 years. I also work as an Americanizer, and build and lead creative teams for self-publishing projects.
